Basra is the port
Basra is the borders of the sea
Basra is the palm trees, grapes
And Shatt al-Arab
Basra is oil
Basrah is fish and salt
Basra is the train
Basra is the rivers
Basra is the water and the desert
Basra is football and music
Basra is the drummers band
Basra is poetry, prose and philosophy
Basra is the Isolationists, Hassan al-Basri, The brethren of purity and dreams
Basra is the reconstruction and destruction
Basra is everything
But it is
Always wronged
The first city built by Muslims
Outside the Arabian Peninsula
And the first city that Muslims devastated More than three times
As a result of their wars
For the spoils and chairs
The oil of ever wronged Basra
Is a curse
Its water is a curse
Its air is a curse
Its palm trees died
And its plants died
Its air is dust and soil
And its waters is nitric acid
My anguish for you, O city that carries everything
And what it carries more are kindness and love
But alas
It dies of compulsion and agony everyday
And ” I live and die for Basra …”

مظلومة دائما
أول مدينة بناها المسلمون خارج الجزيرة العربية
وأول مدينة خرّبها المسلمون
أكثر من ثلاث مرات
نتيجة حروبهم على المغانم و الكراسي
البصرة المظلومة دائما
نفطها نقمة
ماؤها نقمة
هواؤها نقمة
نخيلها مات
وزرعها مات
هواؤها الغبار والتراب
وماؤها تيزاب
يا حسرتي عليك أيتها المدينة التي تحمل من كل شيء
وأكثر ما تحمله الطيبة والمحبة
لكنها يا للأسى
تموت كل يوم بالقهر والحسرة !
