I am so desperate that I throw the rod
behind my back
And completely forget it
Till it is one day
When my hand hits it coincidently
And finds it so spontaneously.
I figure it first as one of crayons
Which my grandson usually scatters them
Among chairs and at the corners
Under the beds
As I am looking for my glasses
I pick it up for cleaning
From the gossamer
And wipe off the dust.
Lo and behold, the very
hedgehog
Standing in front of me
It gazes at me with its bead-like eyes
And it tells me admonishing
Didn’t I tell you of that?!
××: A Hedgehog bone: refers to two bones located in the tail of a shielded female hedgehog and used for magical effects.

ينتابني اليأس فأرمي العود
وراء ظهري
وانساه تماما
الى ان يكون ذات يوم
فترتطم يدي به مصادفة
وتعثر عليه هكذا عفويا
لاحسبه اول الامر قلما من اقلام
التلوين
التي يبعثرها عادة حفيدي
بين الكراسي عند الزوايا
وتحت الاسرة
وانا افتش عن عويناتي
فألتقطه لانظفه
من مخاط الشيطان
وامسح عنه الغبار
فأذا بالقنفذ ذاك نفسه فجأة
يقف شاخصا امامي
وهو يحدجني بعينيه الخرزتين
ويقول لي معاتبا :
الم اقل لك ذلك!
